  • Muay Thai:

Muay Thai, or Thai Boxing is the national sport of Thailand whose roots stretch back to the sword and baton based fighting style known as Krabi-Krabong. Throughout its history, Muay Thai has been deeply rooted in Thai culture, serving throughout its evolution as a means of self defense and hand-to-hand combat for the Thai army.

Through time, rules were put in place, as well as protective gear worn in order to protect the fighters from the vicious knee, shin, elbow and closed fist strikes that define the sport. This is why Muay Thai is often referred to as "the art of eight limbs."

    Boxing:

Boxing originated when a person first lifted a fist against another in play. Different eras of the sport have been distinguished by the use or nonuse of fist coverings.

The ancient Greeks believed fist fighting was one of the games played by the gods on Olympus; thus it became part of the Olympic Games in about 688 BC.

Boxing became a workingman's sport during the Industrial Revolution as prizefights attracted participants and spectators from the working class. Organization was minimal at first, and the bouts of those eras resembled street fights more than modern boxing.

Western style boxing focuses on punching as the means of both attack and defense with a strong emphasis of foot-work, feints and offensive and defensive tactics. Boxing develops powerful, technical punching ability through the use of training tools such as heavy bags and focus mitts. Boxing is also an excellent way to build cardio-vascular conditioning through the use of jump ropes, pad-work and sparring rounds.

    Jiu-Jitsu:

Jiu-Jitsu was formed in Japan originally as an art designed for warfare in feudal times. Judo, now Japan's national sport is simply an extension of the original Jiu-Jitsu.

It wasn't until the early 20th century, when Jiu-Jitsu was introduced to the Gracie family in Brazil that modern day Jiu-Jitsu was born. Since then, the sport has evolved into a widely practiced combat sport known for its grappling and submission techniques. It's main focus is based on crushing the advantage of a larger opponent on the ground by utilizing body position and leverage to target vulnerable point on the body in order to subdue the opponent with joint-locks and choke holds.

At Sityodtong Northshore we currently offer no-gi BJJ which applies the key concepts of BJJ to fighting without the traditional uniform and is the form most often found in Mixed Martial Arts competition.

    MMA:

With the rise in popularity of the UFC, MMA or Mixed Martial Arts has become a household name. MMA is a complete fighting system that is constantly evolving, combining one or more arts that encompass both stand-up striking and grappling techniques on the ground. At Sityodtong Northshore we take a comprehensive approach to MMA, combining the best of Muay Thai, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Wrestling to make a more well-rounded fighter.

Our instructors have years of experience training and competing in their specific art as well as cross-training in the other arts offered at the gym giving them a broad understanding how these arts can work together. Many people train at two or three different gyms to get the varied martial arts training that we provide at Sityodtong Northshore. Why pay for two or more gyms when you can get it all in one place? Our classes are tailored toward the individual, taking each student's skill level into consideration. Whatever your goals are; whether just to get in shape, become stronger and more balanced or to become a professional fighter, we can help you reach your goal.
